Children's Oral Health Initiative (COHI)
The Children’s Oral Health Initiative is a Health Canada initiative designed to prevent and control tooth decay and other oral diseases in young First Nations and Inuit Children.
COHI targets:
- Pregnant women
- Preschool children ages 0-4 and their caregivers
- School children ages 5-7
COHI services:
- Dental screenings (assessment and referral as needed)
- Fluoride varnish applications
- Sealants
- Oral health information sessions with parents/caregivers

First Nations Communities to be serviced:
- Constance Lake
- Taykwa Tagamou
- Mattagami
- Matachewan
- Chapleau Ojibway
- Brunswick House
- Chapleau Cree
- Whagoshig
These First Nation Communities will be visited 4 times a year for COHI services by staff from the Porcupine Health Unit.
