Book a Travel Clinic Appointment

newsbox.jpgRemember to book a travel clinic appointment, either with the Health Unit or your family physician, 6–8 weeks before you leave, or at the same time you book your trip. Your first appointment will take approximately 45 minutes.

During the first visit (follow-ups may be required), the Public Health Nurse will:

  1. Determine whether you are a high- or low-risk traveller (see travelvacs.ca: First Steps)
  2. Check for travel advisories for your destination(s).
  3. Determine the need for
    1. Routine immunizations
    2. Required immunizations
    3. Recommended immunizations

  4. Determine the need for malaria precautions (see www.cdc.gov: Malaria)
  5. Determine whether there are other health hazards (see www.cdc.gov: Travellers' Health)
  6. Discuss some general travel health guidelines.

Appointments

You can book your appointment directly with the Porcupine Health Unit by phone or email. Remember to tell us where you live and when and where you'll be going on your trip.

What to bring

To make sure your appointment goes smoothly, please bring the following to your appointment:

  • your immunization record
  • your complete travel itinerary
  • a list of your current prescription medications
  • either cash or cheque to cover the cost of the vaccines
