The Northern Fruit & Vegetable Pilot Project

Coordinator, The Northern Fruit and Vegetable Pilot Project

The Northern Fruit and Vegetable Pilot Project (NFVPP) is a joint effort by the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU), the Ministry of Health Promotion (MHP), and the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association (OFVGA). The objectives are to increase the vegetable and fruit intake in our Northern Ontario children and promote awareness and nutrition education to parents. The Fruit and Vegetable Growers are supplying free Ontario-grown fruits and vegetables during these months.

I have heard many pleasant stories about the excitement the produce creates and even a tale of little ones pilfering a few leftover apples to take home to their siblings because they were so tasty! With the continued cooperation of all key stakeholders, the Northern Fruit and Vegetable Pilot Project will surely succeed, and will hopefully lay the foundation for its expansion to the whole province.
