WHAT HAPPENS AFTER JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN?
TRANSITION TO SCHOOL
The Preschool Speech and Language Program is responsible for providing services until entry into Senior Kindergarten.
If a child continues to require speech and language services beyond Junior Kindergarten, it is important to a have a good plan in place. This will ensure a smooth transition from the Preschool Speech and Language Program to school.
HOW WILL IT WORK?
Parents will be informed when their child requires further speech and language support or services. Once parents agree to the transition plan and process, the transition process will begin. In some cases, this process may begin even before your child enters the school system. The program coordinator will meet with representatives of the school board to provide reports and recommendations for each child. Meetings may also be scheduled when specific programming recommendations are needed in each school. These meetings will be scheduled at the teacher’s or the school principal’s request.
Our community developed Transition strategies for children, youth and adults with special needs. Research has supported that planned transitions will maximize the opportunity for those children, youth and young adults to access and obtain seamless services to meet their health, educational, vocational and social needs from a variety of service providers within the community.
