Immunization Requirements for Day Cares

As per the Child Care and Early Years Act: Ontario Regulation 137/15, Day Nursery operators must ensure that all children have complete immunization appropriate to their age prior to admission to the day nursery. Consult the most current Publicly Funded Immunization Schedules for Ontario for up to date information on required vaccines.

A record of immunization must be kept as part of each child’s record and be available to the Health Unit upon request.

There may be medical or philosophical reasons for not immunizing children. In these cases, parents must complete exemption forms. The forms need to be submitted to the Health Unit and a copy kept with the child’s health records.

Although the public health nurse will monitor immunization status, it is your responsibility as the day nursery operator to ensure that immunization records are accurate at the time of entry, are kept up-to-date and that you advise the nurse of newly enrolled children in the daycare.
