Dental screening is a quick visual inspection by a Registered Dental Hygienist to identify obvious dental conditions that are causing or will cause pain. We screen children in the Porcupine Health Unit area who are 17 years of age or under and notify parents of urgent dental problems.
Fluoride varnish treatments are offered to all children 4 years of age and younger. We provide this service free of charge in all licensed day cares, Ontario Early Years Centres and in our health unit clinics.

If your child has a preferred activity, encourage them to participate in it once or twice per week, while getting them to partake in a variety of other physical activities 3 or 4 times per week.
Children at this age require a minimum of 60 minutes of moderate physical activity a day. At this age, the child should have the confidence and competence to execute a variety of movements in various environments.
Children ages 5 to 11 need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic physical activity daily with muscle and bone strengthening activities at least 3 days per week.
Preschoolers require a minimum of 180 minutes of physical activity at any intensity spread throughout the day in many different environments.
