Outbreak of E. coli infections linked to romaine lettuce
The Public Health Agency of Canada is advising individuals in Ontario and Quebec to avoid eating romaine lettuce and salad mixes containing romaine lettuce until more is known about the outbreak and the cause of contamination. There is currently a shortage of the yellow fever vaccine in Canada.
Travellers should contact the Porcupine Health Unit well in advance to inquire about whether or not Yellow Fever vaccine is required. The Porcupine Health Unit will then be able to advise you on your options including possibly travelling out of town to receive the Yellow Fever vaccine.
The Cochrane branch of the Porcupine Health Unit is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.
During the summer months of July and August, our hours change to 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Timmins, Ontario - The Porcupine Health Unit is reminding employers and employees that it is illegal to smoke or hold lighted tobacco in the workplace, this includes work vehicles.
With the Porcupine Health Unit's tobacco program we work to educate people about the dangers of second-hand smoke and deliver programs to encourage youth to never start smoking.

The Speech-Language Assistant works under the clinical direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist to provide speech-language intervention services to preschool age children. She/he also performs the infant hearing screening component of the Infant Hearing Program. There is a possibility that, as a result of changes in climate and migration, the mosquitos and ticks that are capable of causing illnesses could one day be a concern.
