Infection Prevention and Control Specialist (Temporary Full-Time 6 Months Timmins)

Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Health, the Infection Prevention and Control Specialist is responsible for providing infection and prevention control expertise and leadership in the implementation of program initiatives and deliverables. This includes developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating infection control programs as well as building capacity internally and externally to detect and manage Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) issues. Enforcement of regulations may be necessary for various situations. This is a new temporary full-time, unionized position that requires an individual who ideally has knowledge and experience of IPAC measures; quick learner; and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with internal and external partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Health Sciences, Public Health Inspection, Law and Security or related field;
  • Current certification from The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, or willingness to obtain same or similar education;
  • Experience and application of Infection Prevention and Control practices and program service delivery is considered an asset;
  • Experience with enforcement of regulations is considered an asset;
  • Knowledge and/or understanding of interpretation and enforcement of regulations, set out by the Province of Ontario;
  • Familiar with the Ontario Public Health Standards, Protocols and Guidelines specifically on Infectious and Communicable Disease Prevention and Control;
  • Fluency in both official languages will be considered an asset;
  • Self-directed learner/worker who requires minimal supervision;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and travel to meet health unit needs;
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
