COVID-19 Vaccine Blitz This Weekend In Timmins

Timmins, Ontario - Wednesday, May 19, 2021

Dr. Lianne Catton, Medical Officer of Health for the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU), is extremely pleased to announce that the PHU has been able to secure vaccine to offer a vaccine blitz in Timmins this weekend. These clinics will offer drop-in clinics and clinics that require scheduled appointments and will use the Pfizer vaccine. Any individual who is 12 years of age or older and who have not yet received their first dose is encouraged to book an appointment or go to one of the drop-in clinics. Families with youth aged 12 years of age or older are encouraged to be vaccinated together at these clinics.

With record numbers of cases and outbreaks, our area is now seeing an increase in hospital admissions, an increase in the severity of infections and COVID-19 infections in younger people. During this third wave, the average age of individuals with COVID-19 is between 30 and 35 years of age.

“Make no mistake we need everyone to stay home as much as possible, leave home for only essential reasons and follow the measures to stop the spread and get us out of this surge of cases. However, vaccination of many community members across the ages is a tremendous opportunity to get there sooner.” says Dr. Catton. “Over 1200 spots are available so please plan to get vaccinated this weekend and share the clinic information with others.”

COVID-19 vaccination is an important measure to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 and protect our businesses, workplace and our communities.
