Update for Friday, May 7, 2021

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting thirteen new confirmed COVID-19 cases and eight resolved case among residents in the health unit area. Ten cases are from the Timmins area and three are from the area of area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls, Smooth Rock Falls. Six cases are contacts of a case, six are under investigation and one is related to an institutional outbreak.

The Stay-at-Home Order is working and has reduced our average number of close contacts for each positive COVID-19 case. The health unit recorded a significant increase in the number of contacts throughout the month of March, reaching a peak of 35 contacts per case on March 14th. In the past week, from April 25 to May 1st, there were 5.0 total contacts/case and 3.7 high-risk contacts/case. We all must work together and continue to limit our number of close contacts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 through our communities.

The health unit is currently holding vaccination clinics for all individuals who are eligible in Phase 1, individuals who are 40 years and older, the first and second groups of essential frontline workers (18 years or older) who cannot work from home, and certain groups that are currently eligible in Phase 2. The PHU currently has appointments available for Timmins, Hearst, Matheson, Smooth Rock Falls, Kapuskasing, South Porcupine, Iroquois Falls Cochrane, and Hornepayne. Visit our vaccine page for information or to book your appointment.
