The table above is pulled from the active Case and Contact Management system and is current as of the morning of day last updated. Like with other active sources of information, there may be some fluctuation in numbers from day to day as a result of case investigation and follow-up.

The number of Variants of Concern (VOCs) is updated weekly on Wednesdays. Please note that the predominant VOC in our area is B.1.1.7 and the number of cases with a VOC is likely under reported due to testing criteria.

Update for Monday, January 17, 2022

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting one (1) death related to COVID-19 in the PHU region. Out of respect for the families, no further information will be shared. We extend our deepest condolences to their families and friends during this difficult time.

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting twenty (20) new COVID-19 cases, six (6) among residents in the Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls & Smooth Rock Falls area, three (3) in the James and Hudson Bay area, three (3) in the Hearst & Hornepayne area, one (1) in the Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam & Fauquier-Strickland area, and seven (7) in the Timmins area. PHU is also reporting seventy-two (72) resolved cases among residents in the health unit area. Visit phu.fyi/covid-cases for more information about confirmed cases in the PHU region.

Due to changes in the availability of testing, driven by increasing COVID-19 cases related to the Omicron variant, case counts in our current data reports are an underestimate of the true number of individuals with COVID-19 in Ontario. As such, data should be interpreted with caution.

From data pulled in our latest epidemiology report, ages 20 to 39 years old were 37.7% of our confirmed cases. Followed by ages 19 and under which were 28.8% of our confirmed cases in our district. These are also the age ranges with the lowest percentage of people with two doses of a COVID-19 (phu.fyi/covid-vaccine). Coincidence? We think not! Vaccines are safe and effective against COVID-19, especially after receiving a booster dose. Individuals who are eligible can book an appointment to receive their first, second or booster shot at phu.fyi/covid-vaccine.
