Two New Confirmed Cases of COVID-19 and Outbreak and Potential Exposure at Living Space in Timmins

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting two new COVID-19 cases among residents in the health unit area.  The PHU is also declaring an outbreak at Living Space in accordance with the provincial guidelines which deems that one case in a staff or patron in a congregate living setting is an outbreak. 

The health unit is working with Living Space to identify close contacts and is asking community partners to share this information with their clients as appropriate.  The PHU is also arranging COVID-19 testing at Living Space.  More details will be shared as they become available.

Potential exposure

The Porcupine Health Unit is releasing information about a potential high risk exposure to patrons who accessed services at Living Space in Timmins between Thursday, April 22, 2021 and Tuesday, April 27, 2021.

Anyone experiencing symptoms is advised to self-isolate immediately and call their local assessment centre or the health unit at 705-267-1181 or toll-free at 1-800-461-1818 to arrange testing.

An infected person can spread COVID-19 starting 48 hours (or 2 days) before the person had any symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19. Symptoms include:

Typical Symptoms:

  • Fever
  • New or worsening cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Loss of sense of smell or taste
  • Sore throat/hoarse voice
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Runny nose or nasal congestion
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain

Atypical Symptoms:

  • Unexplained fatigue or malaise
  • Muscle aches
  • Delirium
  • Unexplained or increased number of falls
  • Acute functional decline
  • Exacerbation of current chronic conditions
  • Chills
  • Headaches
  • Croup
  • Conjunctivitis
