Yellow Fever Vaccine

A single dose provides lifelong protection for most people.

What is Yellow Fever?

Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne, viral infection, found in the tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and Central and South America. The virus is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito species, which are currently not established in Canada. All cases of yellow fever in Ontario are travel-related, and there is no human-to-human transmission. A vaccine is available to prevent the disease.

Where can I get the vaccine?

Yellow Fever vaccine can only be administered at designated Yellow Fever centres. It cannot be prescribed by a physician or purchased at a pharmacy. In our area, the Porcupine Health Unit is a Yellow Fever Designated Centre.

Where can I book an appointment?

If you require Yellow Fever vaccine, please call our health Unit office in Timmins at 1-800-461-1818 and ask to speak with a nurse. You must speak to the nurse prior to booking your appointment.

Important information

This will be the only travel vaccine offered during the visit. Any other travel vaccines will need to be prescribed by your physician and purchased at the pharmacy. We will also provide you with any publicly funded vaccines you may need.
