Correspondence was received for information purposes. Review of the correspondence received from the Ministry of Health - Office of Chief Medical Officer of Health to Dr. Lianne Catton, Medical Officer of Health, Porcupine Health Unit dated June 9, 2021 occurred. Dr. Catton advised the Board, that Dr. Williams supported and encouraged a continuation of the existing public health measures for the Porcupine Health Unit region under the Province wide Emergency Brake and to use local authorities and powers available to the MOH to apply measures, as necessary.

Review of correspondence dated June 10th, 2021 from the Town of Kapuskasing, Mayor Dave Plourde. Mayor Plourde had issued a letter on behalf of the communities of Kapuskasing, Hornepayne, Hearst, Mattice-Val Cote, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, Fauquier-Strickland requesting that the continuance of measures apply specifically to regions with high case counts and to permit the remaining communities within the PHU to join the Province in entering step 1 of the Roadmap to Reopen. An emergency Board of Health meeting was held June 9th to discuss the crisis the PHU was facing with numerous cases and a high predominance of variants. During the emergency meeting, Dr. Catton advised that measures would continue across the region to ensure the safety of all community members within the PHU region. The Board supported this decision and re-iterated the importance of being united in their approach. Discussion ensued with respect to the letter and the Board Members again re-iterated their support behind the decision to remain in the emergency brake as a region.
