Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program

The Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) provides pregnant women in need with nutrition counseling, support and follow-up throughout their pregnancy. You can participate if you're facing challenges like:

  • Teen pregnancy
  • Financial struggles
  • Social or geographical isolation
  • Substance use (including smoking and alcohol)
  • Family violence

Participants will see the dietitian for at least 4 sessions throughout their pregnancy. It's an opportunity to learn about eating well for mom and baby (during pregnancy, breastfeeding and early infant feeding), ask questions, start preparing for baby now and just talk. Vouchers for milk, grocery store gift cards for food and prenatal vitamin supplements are also provided to those in need. The dietitian can also link clients to other services such as Brighter Futures programming, Quit Smoking Clinic and HBHC.

If you are interested in this program, talk to your health care provider or call the Health Unit at 1-800-461-1818.
