Porcupine Health Unit Offers Fourth Dose (Booster) COVID-19 Vaccine to Eligible Individuals

Issued: Monday, April 11, 2022

Ministry of Health has announced fourth doses (booster) of a mRNA COVID-19
vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) for additional groups. Eligible individuals can receive their
fourth dose (booster) if at least five months (140 days) have passed after receiving
their third dose.

These groups include:

  • Individuals 60 years of age or older and
  • First Nation, Inuit, Métis adults, and their non-Indigenous household members
who are 18 years or older at the time of the appointment.
Other groups already eligible for a fourth dose include:
  • Residents of long-term care homes, retirement homes, Elder Care and other
congregate setting that provide assisted-living and health services to older
    adults; and
  • Individuals who are moderately or severely immunocompromised as a result of
    specific medical conditions and medications.

With COVID-19 increasing across the province, getting a booster dose especially if you
are at higher risk including those over 60, is very important. Vaccines are your best
defense against severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) continues to strongly recommend masking in all
indoor public settings and to stay home if you have symptoms.

Eligible individuals must book an appointment for their vaccine. Walk-ins will not
be accepted at this time. Appointments can be booked online at phu.fyi/covid-vaccine
or by calling the health unit at 1-800-461-1818.

More vaccine clinics are being planned in the PHU region over the next few weeks.
