Influenza and the Flu Vaccine

It’s time to get your flu shot. This is a different flu season, so getting your influenza vaccine to protect yourself and those around you is more important than ever.

The Porcupine Health Unit encourages everyone to receive the influenza vaccine. We will be offering free community-based immunization clinics throughout the month of November. You can also call your primary health care provider or visit your local pharmacy to receive your influenza vaccine.

Note:
You will notice a new look when arranging your appointment/registrations online. This change is the result of the health unit’s move to a new booking system called Front Desk.

There can be issues when implementing a new system. If you have any issues booking online, please contact the health unit at 1-800-461-1181 for help.

A Different Flu Season

The Porcupine Health Unit is taking extra precautions this year to ensure that getting your flu vaccine is as easy and safe as possible.

Those precautions include all current COVID-19 guidance:

  • Requiring masks or face coverings at all flu clinics.
  • Active screening for everyone who attends.
  • Fixed appointments only — no walk-ins.
  • Physical distancing and protective barriers.
  • Locations that will allow staff and the public to maintain a safe 2 metre distance — many of them different locations from previous years.
  • Different clinic hours than previous years.

We encourage you to book your flu clinic appointment as soon as possible, either online or by calling your closest Porcupine Health Unit office.

Arriving for Your Appointment

Because of the measures we’re taking this year to protect people attending and working at our influenza clinics, we’re asking for your help in keeping things run smoothly and safety.

Please:

  • Show up on time for your appointment. There will be no seating for people who arrive early, so you will be asked to wait outside or in your car until your appointment time.
  • You must book an appointment. Walk-ins will not be permitted.
  • If you have to cancel, call the PHU as soon as possible to let us know.
  • Wear a mask or face covering.
  • Unless you require a support person, come to your appointment only with other people who have appointments.

Thank you for helping us keep our flu clinics as safe as possible!
